Yes, the first study that was mentioned in the NY TImes article led by Karin James is the one I had read and it led me to writing my PTO grant. I have an entire book of compiled research on handwriting if anyone wants to read more on this subject.

This is why note taking skills (by hand) are still emphasized in my social studies classes. What we all really need to emphasize is a heathy balance between writing by hand and word processing. Isn't balance in all aspects of our lives important? We all need to take a deep breath and remind ourselves that it is alright to encourage students to use a pencil or pen to jot down their ideas. What will happen if we lose power for two weeks-- didn't his happen in 2012?
