Better yet, create your own class reading bracket, which could then be more designed for your particular students. Last year, a teacher at Point Road created one with Patricia Palaco books prior to the author visit. The students had a blast reading the titles and then voting, which in the end resulted in finding their favorite Palaco book. We know that giving students choice in reading promotes reading as a 'gift not a chore'. As teachers, we encourage our students to talk about books because we value classroom conversations. Through conversation we grow. As Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey and Carol Rothenberg explain in Content-Area Conversations, "Language, in other words, is how we think. It's how we process information and remember."
Lets give our students something to talk about!
