Teachers set goals for their students all the time, because those goals are established by mandates and curriculum standards. But, do you set goals for yourself? There are many sites that offer suggestions and advice on goal setting.
Google ‘Setting Goals’ and you will find a variety of sources that will help you set goals for success. Such as, Five Golden Rules to Goal Setting offered by Mindtools.com: http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newHTE_90.htm or Notes to Self in Psychology Today. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/notes-self/201308/how-set-goals The New York Times offered goal setting advice by Michael Hyatt, author of Inside My Toolbox. http://michaelhyatt.com/goal-setting.html He shares that happier people are those who create goals.
Whatever you read, you find common threads. Make just a few goals and write them down. Create an action plan and revisit the steps often. I find I make lists, but I need to take the list further with a real Action Plan! I’m setting a goal to do just that!
This month more sites will be added that offer good resources for your instructional practices. The Curriculum Department is also offering after school work sessions to support teachers in their efforts to create ‘next generation quality assessments’. I hope to see you there!
