Some of my most creative ideas come during down time. Along with that, there is the collaboration time. We know how important it is for our students to share ideas. Discussions and questions lead to learning and achievement. I recently met two friends that I used to teach with for a delightful sushi dinner. When I got home I realized the time was well spent and I gained new insight and another perspective on a project I was working on. I need to make time to do that more often.
Before we turn back the clocks this October, we will have two days of Professional Development. In an effort to honor collaborative learning with colleagues, we have planned less structured 'workshops' and provided you with more time to get together and share ideas and thinking. During the two hours titled Ed Camp, there are various choices on programs and resources that we are already using in Little Silver. My hope is that you have an opportunity to rewind, review and renew your teaching practice and understanding. Let's decelerate in order to accelerate our ideas and instructional practices!
As Little Silver continues to embrace RTI, we continue to find resources to broaden our teaching strategies with interventions that will enhance student learning. Several teachers in both buildings were fortunate to spend a day with Jennifer Serravallo, author of The Literacy Teacher's Playbook and The Reading Strategies Book. Look forward to after school workshops where they will turnkey their learning and share.
Additionally you can sign up for an optional after school workshop on Writing Workshop, where you will learn more about helping young writers set goals. The most powerful way to improve student writing is to know best conferring practices. Join Sami Strauss and some of your colleagues to expand your repertoire. You will find all professional learning opportunities on My Learning Plan. Hope to see you there!
